Farmers around the country are offering new ways to get their farm fresh goods to consumers through online ordering platforms.

Local producer Exeter Park Produce and Garlic out of West Winfield, New York has recently followed suit and unveiled their new online ordering capabilities.  You may know Exeter Park Produce and Garlic, as they have been a staple at the Old Forge Farmers Market for several years.

The idea behind the new platform is to make it easier for customers along the Western Central Adirondack Corridor (Route 28) to buy fresh, locally-grown products.  Customers can now purchase items that range from vegetables to dairy products and meat to baked goods which are produced by local farms.  Every two weeks, Exeter Park fulfills those orders on Fridays, making local delivery stops in Woodgate, Otter Lake, and Thendara for clients to pick up.  For many shoppers, the convenience of ordering their groceries online is a major draw.

Even more exciting, is Exeter Park's Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) packages can also be purchased through their online platform!  For those that don't know, CSA is a unique model of farming that offers immense benefits to both farmers and consumers.  CSA is a cooperative arrangement between farmers and consumers in which consumers pay for a "share" of a farmer's harvest.  In return, the farmer is able to manage the production and distribution of food more efficiently and the consumers receive fresh, high-quality produce.

By purchasing a CSA share, consumers are able to receive a variety of fresh, locally produced food at lower cost than they would pay at the grocery store.  Additionally, consumers can have peace of mind knowing that their food is produced with sustainable practices.  CSA also allows consumers to be more connected to their food as they are able to learn about where it is grown and how it is produced.  This enables the consumer to be confident in the quality of food they are feeding their families.

Exeter Park offers a variety of CSA options throughout the course of the year:

  •  Spring CSA - 10-week delivery, products as they become ready to harvest - greens, asparagus, strawberries, onions, radishes, herbs, as well as farm fresh eggs.  Delivery April 14 - June 23.
  • In-Season CSA- includes seasonal fruits and vegetables, garlic, herbs, & fresh brown eggs.  Delivery June 23, 2023 - October 6, 2023.
  • Summer CSA - 10-week delivery which includes the same items as above but is delivered June 30, 2023 - September 1, 2023.  This package is perfect for seasonal residents.
  • Holiday CSA - includes several items in the summer packages and also includes apples, potatoes, cabbage, squash, and pumpkins.  Deliver is October 13, 2023 - December 22, 2023.

Lastly, it is important to note that the CSA ordering platform and delivery services are different than other online box delivery services such as Misfit Market or Ugly Fruit.  Cindy at Exeter Park says it is important to note that "Although those services get your healthy food to your door conveniently, those boxes are filled with products from all over the place.  You might be supporting a farmer in California, Florida, or even Canada. We produce all of our products within an hour drive of your doorstep.  You are investing in a local producer and ultimately strengthening your local food system, not to mention the reduction of your carbon footprint.  The customer gets high quality, nutritious, farm raised food and the region gets a robust food system.  Win-Win."
