OLD FORGE FARMERS MARKET ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION!

As you know, the Old Forge Farmers Market, administered by LivingADK, remains committed to food access, community and nutrition and for 14 years has striven to be a community asset, welcoming year-round and seasonal residents as well as the thousands of visitors recreating in and around our community.  The Market has been a place for social gathering as well as a provider of nutritious food options. In an effort to remain consistent within that mission, we recognized the need of relocating the Farmers Market to a site that will accommodate increased parking demand as the Market popularity has grown substantially over the years.Numerous locations were carefully evaluated for their close proximity to the downtown business district with the desire to keep the Farmers Market within walking distance if possible.  After careful consideration of the zoning regulations controlling parking access within certain districts of the downtown area, our Farmers Market Committee determined that the ideal new location is the parking lot adjacent to the George Hiltebrant Pavilion, 201 North Street, Old Forge, NY.  THIS WILL REMAIN AN OUTDOOR MARKET.  An added benefit of this site is the recently updated children’s playground adjacent to the vendor area where the children can play while you're shopping. The Farmers Market Committee is working hard to ensure all our loyal followers will easily find our new location by utilizing social media, newsprint, TV and radio over the next several months and throughout the market season. The Town Board remains committed and supportive of this transition for which we are very appreciative.  We also wish to again thank the Cohen and Murray families for the many years the Market was located behind Old Forge Hardware & Furniture Company. It is important to LivingADK and the Farmers Market Committee that we ensure equitable access to everything the Market has to offer while also ensuring the Market remains accessible to our senior community members. We look forward to seeing you starting June 17th, our 15th year, supporting local and regional farmers, producers and crafters!

LivingADK a featured presenter atFebruary Common Ground Alliance Housing Summit

On February 25th the Common Ground Alliance hosted a digital Housing Summit.  The event hosted  approximately 80 attendees from around the Adirondack Park and the surrounding area from elected leaders, not-for-profit organizations and local businesses.  The focus of the summit was on the housing issues plaguing our towns, villages and hamlets and how to take action.  Dan Kiefer-Bach of LivingADK was one of the featured speakers for the event.  The presentation focused on some key aspects in tackling housing concerns.  Points covered included being solution minded and not barrier minded, how other communities across the country have successfully battled the same housing issues for decades and how to divide the issue into its component parts. Affordable housing can encompass many different issues, and often times, multiple interventions are needed for each component part.  Namely, lack of home ownership, long term rentals, workforce housing, senior housing, and housing density being all different aspects.  The event was well attended and was an opportunity to network with other people working in the housing realm.

BOONVILLE/PORT LEYDENCURRENT EMPLOYEE SURVEY

LivingADK is asking for help from local employers.  In an effort to help with transportation issues for employees, LivingADK is working with Lewis County Career Center to get a bus route running from the Boonville and Port Leyden area into the Town of Inlet and back.  The bus would stop at all of the towns/villages along the way on State Route 28 and would circle back 2 times a day.  In order to get a bus paid for by the State, the region needs to prove potential ridership numbers.  There have been 60 employees identified from the Boonville/Port Leyden area that currently work in the State Route 28 corridor year-round or as a predictable returning regular seasonal employee.  If you are an employer, we ask that you share this survey with any of your current employees from the Boonville/Port Leyden area.  This will help us understand how often a bus would need to run, if a year-round bus would be supported or if only a seasonal bus would work and what days of the week it would need to run.  Thank you in advance for your efforts.

GRANT CENTER

What's New.....
1) After receipt of the $250,000 grant from the Recreational Trails Program, the Town of Webb is waiting for the funds to be released by the State. Once the funds are released, the grant contract can be executed and the work plan can commence.
2) LivingADK submitted a $5,000 grant application to the Adirondack Foundation on February 1st to aid in the expenses for program creation of the LivingADK Deed Restriction program in the Central Adirondack area.
3) LivingADK along with the Inlet Parks Department submitted a grant application on February 25th to the Adirondack Community Alliance for $4,200 for the expansion of trails and trail signage in and around the Town of Inlet.
4) In conjunction with the Hiltebrant Pavilion Committee, LivingADK is aiding in a grant request for $120,000 from the Wadas Foundation to help expand the potential uses of the Hiltebrant Pavillion year-round as a community athletic center.5) The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties today has announced a $10,000 grant opportunity from March 1st- March 25th for community projects.  LivingADK will be aiding in the submission of multiple applications within the community.
Survey Corner Reminder: Be Heard! Help the various ongoing efforts in our area by sharing!

1) Housing Condition Survey This newly released survey through Town of Webb is slated to explore the condition of our housing stock in the area.  Could there be grants to fix up dilapidated structures? Grants to modify 3 season camps to year round housing?  Funding from the state and federal government requires data on need, so to access grant funds to pursue these efforts, we first need a financial understanding of where our housing stock is as a community and what monies would help preserve/expand that stock.2) New York State Broadband AssessmentNew York State is conducting a survey to determine where internet is lacking in the state, why, as well as assessing speed.   Although you may have taken a similar survey in the past, these were conducted by the town and the county.  New York State is now conducting the most important survey, so be heard and do not be discouraged. Please take the 2-minute survey so that federal dollars incentivize expansion in our area.3) Co-Housing Survey (Launched December) to determine demand for a new program connecting older homeowners to "host" housemates in exchange for rent in the form of payment/chores in an effort to keep seniors in their home while offering (some) additional affordable housing options.
