The Old Forge Farmers Market, created and administered by LivingADK (powered by CAP-21), is proud to be entering their 15th season of offering fresh local or regionally grown harvest to our Adirondack community along with several artisan and craft offerings.  Still available for sale, our very own cookbook “From Farm to Forge” Recipes Inspired by The Old Forge Farmers Market!    You may pick up your copies at the weekly farmers market, order them online at Livingadk.org or stop by LivingADK’s office located at the rear of Adirondack Bank, 108 Codling Street.  The cost is $20 per book and will make a great gift for your friends and family for special occasions or the holidays.

For well over a decade now, farmers have provided everything from fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables, farm eggs and dairy products, locally grown and grass-fed meats, wine, fresh bread, bakery items and much more.  Most of our vendors return year after year, while additional offerings are considered as space permits and a specific need is identified.

New this year is our LOCATION! After originally being set up in the parking lot behind Old Forge Hardware & Furniture Company for many years, we will now be positioned in the parking lot of the George Hiltebrant Recreation Center, 201 North Street, Old Forge, thanks to the town of Webb Town Board.  Many of you will know to “just turn left at the Pied Piper Ice Cream onto North Street and we are 1/3 mile down on your left”.   We also wish to express our thanks to the Herkimer County Legislature and Herkimer County HealthNet for supportive funding toward our additional marketing pieces and banner allowing us to spread the word of our new location. We also wish to again thank Linda & Sarah Cohen along with Erica & Terry Murray for the use of “the Hardware” parking lot over the past 14 years.

The Old Forge Farmers Market (OFFM) will be held every Friday starting June 17th through October 7th, rain or shine, and operates from 1 pm until 5 pm. Parking should be plentiful at our new location.   Supervisor Baker has been invited to opening day for our ribbon cutting ceremony.  The benefits of the market in the local community have been widespread.  Each week, space is reserved for a local non-profit organization or governmental agency to inform the public of their services and to raise funds for their causes.  In addition, at the beginning of each market season, LivingADK distributes a number of market nutrition coupons to St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church, Niccolls Presbyterian Church, Inlet Community Church and the SHARP senior activities program.  These organizations distribute these coupons through their Food Pantry and associated programs.  To date, we have distributed over $24,000 direct to residents through this coupon program.  A number of our vendors also participate in the following assistance programs: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), FreshConnect coupons and WIC FMNP & SFMNP allowing their wholesome products to find tables in the entire community.

Sue Huber, a Nutritional Therapy Consultant, will be entering her 5th season as the Old Forge Farmers Market manager and has solicited her husband Phil’s help for his fourth season. Sue and Phil’s energy, excitement and knowledge, along with the ongoing support of LivingADK, have allowed the market to become a regional Adirondack attraction and the Friday Old Forge place to see and be seen.  You will be able to identify Sue and Phil wearing their burgundy Old Forge Farmers Market Manager t-shirts.
