Recognizing Those Who Make the Central Adirondacks Shine

IMG 8294

On October 15, 2025, LivingADK hosted its Annual Meeting followed by the 2025 “Tip of the CAP” Awards at View Arts Center, celebrating the extraordinary individuals, business leaders, and organizations whose dedication, generosity, and service strengthen the West Central Adirondacks.  For those who are not familiar with this award event, LivingADK does not vote internally on nominations.  If a nomination is received and meets the program guidelines, that individual or group will publicly receive a certificate of appreciation.  This year’s honorees represent the heart of our region — neighbors who show up, give back, and inspire others to do the same.

Community Pillars

  • The Grill Masters of Inlet: The Rudd, Fadel, and Donnelly Families For the past five years, the Rudd, Fadel, and Donnelly families have been the smiling faces behind the grill at the CAP-PY Duck Derby. Rain or shine, they’ve served up hot dogs and hospitality — donating their time, covering all supply costs, and giving every penny of proceeds to LivingADK. Their selfless spirit is the perfect recipe for community pride (though we think duck costumes might make a great addition next year!).
  • Barbara Green, Old Forge — a quiet force of leadership and compassion, Barbara’s countless volunteer hours across multiple organizations have strengthened the very fabric of our community.
  • Steven Hoepfl, Old Forge — for 28 years, Steven’s behind-the-scenes dedication to the Town of Webb’s tourism efforts (and those ever-popular webcams!) has kept visitors connected to our corner of the Adirondacks.
  • Reed Proper, Thendara — the heartbeat of the Old Forge Farmers Market, Reed’s kindness, humor, and willingness to lend a hand remind us that community is built one small act at a time.
  • Jax Kenny, Old Forge — at just 12 years old, Jax has proven that age is no barrier to community spirit. His steady help at the Farmers Market each week brought energy, reliability, and joy to everyone he met.
  • Stephen Cole, Inlet — through his leadership of the Inlet Community Garden and the Inlet Area Community Task Force, Stephen has cultivated not only gardens but a sense of shared purpose and growth.
  • Calvin Risley, Old Forge — from plowing driveways to helping neighbors in times of crisis, Calvin quietly embodies the very best of Adirondack neighborliness.
  • Beverly Meeker, Old Forge — a true multi-hat community leader whose dedication to the Old Forge Library, St. Bartholomew’s, and the American Legion Auxiliary has made a lasting mark.
  • Charlie Herr, Inlet — for preserving Inlet’s history through the Inlet Historical Society, ensuring that the stories of the past continue to inspire future generations.
  • The Senior Lunch Delivery Program: Since launching in February 2024, the Senior Lunch Delivery Program has delivered not just meals, but meaningful moments of connection to homebound seniors from Thendara to Inlet.  This partnership — powered by The Community Foundation of Herkimer/Oneida, Adirondack Foundation, Excellus BCBS, AmeriCu, the Old Forge Library, Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, Barb Green, The Old Forge Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and LivingADK — relies on a team of incredible volunteer drivers and co-pilots.  The drivers and co-pilots who were honored from Old Forge are Barb Green, Dave Dunn, Jim Munger, Kelly & Mike Hunkins, David Berkstresser, Joe Rintrona, Jocelen Pearson, Libbie Graham and Sally & Craig Woods.   The drivers from Inlet that were honored are Mary Denn, Jeanne Tommell, Shannon Grover, Joyce Watts, Barb Maurice, Marti Taylor, Linda Keener, Amanda Lamson, Karen Kessler, Julie Meeks Nelson & Melissa Pieber.  To all those who deliver, assemble, donate, and organize: thank you for proving that compassion travels far.

Business & Organization Champions

  • James Dillon, Raquette Lake Supply — keeping neighbors warm, businesses running, and local teens employed with care and integrity.
  • KC Kelly, American Legion, Inlet — honoring veterans and uniting communities through vision and leadership.
  • Kurt & Ximena Gardner, Kurt Gardner Photography & The Bear Den, Old Forge — spreading beauty, healing, and creativity while nurturing connection and kindness.
  • Tom Greco, Dylan & Hayly Smith, SPACE Old Forge — transforming their vision into a lively hub where art, music, food, and friendship thrive.
  • Shana Marleau & Staff, Mountain & Main, Inlet — proving that great customer service and generosity go hand in hand.
  • Phyllis Canova & the late Mary Mulchy, St. Patrick’s/St. Mary’s Food Pantry, Forestport — for their compassion and commitment to feeding neighbors with dignity and care.
  • Niccolls Memorial Presbyterian Church, Old Forge — a true cornerstone of compassion, offering food, fellowship, and faith-driven service to all.
  • Judy Lonergan & Laurie Barkauskas, Central Adirondack Association (CAA) — the driving force behind our favorite community events, from Snodeo to Christmas on Main Street.
  • Last but certainly not least, Robin Hill, Executive Director, LivingADK Robin was nominated by two separate individuals in the community for her exceptional leadership, boundless dedication, and deep commitment to building a stronger, more connected community through her work with LivingADK.

Each of these honorees reminds us that the Adirondack spirit thrives through service, kindness, and connection.

Thank you to all who sent in nominations and to those who attended to support LivingADK and their fellow community members!  To all who lend a hand, lead with heart, and give selflessly — LivingADK thanks you.
